Pumping tires became a trending topic involving goalies Roberto Luongo and Tim Thomas at the 2011 Stanley Cup Final between the Boston Bruins and Vancouver Canucks. Bill Fitch Jersey . For the first time since that matchup, the two goalies face each other tonight as the Canucks host Thomas new team, the Florida Panthers. Going into Game 6, Luongo had an infamous rant in which he used the term to describe the praise he was showing Thomas in the media, but complained about not receiving the same from his Bruins goaltender. "I never did have any animosity toward him. I wasnt thinking about him. I was thinking about doing my job," Thomas told the Vancouver Sun on Monday. The series went seven games and Thomass 37 saves outdid Luongos 17 to a 4-0 championship clinching win at Rogers Arena. The Canucks are in danger of posting their longest losing streak in nearly five years, so now seems like a good time for a visit from the Panthers. The Canucks try to avoid a fifth straight defeat overall and just their second at home all-time against the Panthers. Vancouver has been held to a single goal during each game of its current 0-3-1 slide. That includes a setback in the first two of a six-game homestand, with the Canucks losing an overtime decision to the San Jose Sharks on Thursday prior to Sundays 2-1 loss to the Dallas Stars. Roberto Luongo had 21 saves and Henrik Sedin got the Canucks onto the board just over three minutes into the third period. Sedin, though, also had a potential game-tying goal on the power play waived off near the midway point of the second period when it was ruled twin brother Daniel Sedin made incidental contract with Dallas netminder Kari Lehtonen. Though Canucks head coach John Tortorella said afterwards that no one play costs a team a game, it was a sequence he would have liked to have been reviewed. "Its a big play in the game. I think we need to get the call right. If you can review that, I think you get the call right. But its unreviewable," said Tortorella, who said he did not get an explanation of the call. "All the crap we review, and they dont review an important thing like that. I just think that needs to change. Its the wrong call." That leaves the Canucks in danger of their longest losing streak since an 0-5-3 skid from Jan. 9-31, 2009. That makes this visit from the Panthers well timed. Florida has not won in Vancouver since its inaugural 1993-94 season, going 0-5-1 with five ties since. The Canucks are also 8-1-1 with a pair of ties in their previous 12 meetings with the Panthers overall, though Florida did snap a three-game series losing streak with a 2-1 win at home in the most recent encounter on Jan. 9, 2012. Luongo is 4-1-1 with a 1.79 goals against average in six career games versus the Panthers, who he played with for five seasons before getting traded to Vancouver ahead of the 2006-07 campaign. The Panthers are looking to get rolling under interim head coach Peter Horachek, having gone 2-3-0 since he replaced a fired Kevin Dineen on Nov. 8. Florida defeated the Colorado Avalanche 4-1 on Saturday, its second win in three games following an 0-5-4 slide and first on the road since its season- opener in Dallas on Oct. 3. The club had gone 0-8-1 on the road following that victory, but got a goal from Brad Boyes in the first period on Saturday, one from Brian Campbell and Tomas Kopecky in the second and a fourth from Jonathan Huberdeau in the final frame. Tim Thomas made 32 saves for his 200th career win and Tom Gilbert had three assists. "We didnt commit many turnovers and we kept the puck deep in their zone," Gilbert said. The Panthers will play the third of a five-game road trip tonight and could stay with Thomas in net. He has had success in his career versus the Canucks, going 3-1-0 with a 1.26 GAA in four regular-season meetings. He also helped the Boston Bruins knock off the Canucks in the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals, notching a pair of shutouts and winning the Conn Smythe Trophy. Eric Snow Jersey . The Brazilian-born strikers brace drew him level with Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo as the leagues leading scorers with 17 goals apiece through 16 rounds. "The important thing is to help the team win, not the goals," Diego Costa said. After a first half dominated by defence, Atletico pressed Valencia into its area and Diego Costa did the rest. Kadri was dressed in a green jersey at Thursdays practice and skated as an extra forward on the teams fourth line as the Leafs.CHICAGO -- The St. Louis Blues are considered to be one of the teams to challenge defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago at the top of the Central Division. So far, the Blues are living up to the praise. T.J. Oshie scored the lone goal in the shootout, Jaroslav Halak stopped all three Chicago shooters in the extra session and St. Louis defeated the Blackhawks 3-2 on Thursday night. David Backes scored a power-play goal for St. Louis, while Alexander Steen was credited with an even-strength score in regulation in the Blues first road game. The Blues are 2-0 against the Blackhawks so far, also having beaten Chicago with two late goals in a game in St. Louis on Oct. 9. "Its huge." Oshie said. "And tonight, we played a good team game. We have a couple breakdowns, but for the full 65 minutes and the shootout as a team we played pretty solid. "Were getting to a stage now that theyre where we want to be. That makes you play a little bit harder when you play against them because of what theyve accomplished and what we want to accomplish." The Blues (5-1-0) started the season with five straight home games, and won the first four before losing 6-2 to San Jose on Tuesday. They bounced back strong on Thursday. "There was intensity," Backes said. "Mistakes were magnified, just like the playoffs. These are two teams that bring out the best in each other, hard fought, could of gone either way when you get to a shootout." Chicagos Marian Hossa scored on a breakaway and set up Brandon Pirris first NHL goal in regulation. All but one of the Blackhawks (4-1-2) first seven games have been decided by one goal. Chicago is struggling to score despite a lineup loaded with offensive stars. The Blackhawks have just 20 goals in their first seven games and only 14 in six games following a season-opening 6-4 win over Washington. The Blackhawks were second only to Pittsburgh in goal scoring last season, but coach Joel Quenneville didnt like his teams effort or output on Thursday. "I didnt like our pace," he said. "I didnt like that we were turning pucks over. "We didnt get any pucks to the net. We didnt generate any offence after the first period. Quenneville said his team needs to find a higher gear. "Weve been getting points outside to the one game, so were OK there," Quenneville said. Mo Williams Jersey. "But we dont have a lot of production. Well look at our lines. We need some offence. And I dont like coaching offensively." Chicagos Corey Crawford made 26 saves and Halak had 27. Both goalies made a handful of tough stops early before Pirri opened the scoring at 7:42 of the first. After taking Hossas perfect pass, Pirri sent a one-timer from the left circle that ticked off the post and into the upper left corner of the net. Backes power-play goal at 10:14 of the first tied it at 1. He was parked in front of Crawford and deflected in Jay Bouwmeesters wrist shot from the left point. The Blues dominated early in the second period. Any momentum was broken when St. Louis Barret Jackman hit Chicago star Patrick Kane hard from behind and was sent off for boarding at 7:18. Hossa put Chicago ahead 2-1 with 2:38 left in the second on a breakaway. After the puck slipped past the Blues defence, both Hossa and Patrick Sharp skated in alone, and Hossa fired a shot past Halak on the stick side. Steen was credited with a goal 51 seconds later that was inadvertently knocked in by Chicago defenceman Duncan Keith and tied it at 2. Steen was 30 feet out in the slot, and deflected Bouwmeesters shot from the point. The puck slid to the right side of the crease where Keith was trying to tie up Backes, but Keith swept the puck on goal and past Crawford. Crawford made a tough close-in save on Alex Pietrangelo with just over seven minutes left to keep it tied. Halak made an alert save on Brandon Saad 33 seconds into overtime with Jonathan Toews closing in for a rebound. Jackmans shot hit the post 3:17 into the extra period.
